I'm proposing a New Year's resolution for everyone! Go paperless! Maybe you've considered it in the past but have been afraid to flip the switch. From a teacher perspective, there are lots of pros to going paperless. Consider these:
If you think student handwriting is bad sometimes your your students can't read the marks, notations and comments you write in the margins. Typing your work will make it easier to read!
You can erase and edit what you write on student work without having to cross things out.
You have an automatic, digital copy of graded student work -- without having to print it out. Think of it as a student's electronic portfolio.
To infinity and beyond! A student can literally take the work with them from grade to grade. For instance, when they move from 9th grade to 10th, they can reflect on the work they've done and review the types of errors or probelm areas they had with earlier work.
The class time you used to spend returning papers can be used to discuss their work.
Tip for using comments: include the @ or + sign to send an email directly to the student.
